Ronald McDonald House Charity Snowdonia 25k

My partner James and I ended up staying in their Manchester house when our daughter Freya was born in 2021 and had to stay on the NICU unit at the St. Mary’s Hospital; she would end up requiring three surgeries in her first three months of life and, due to COVID regulations at the time, us parents were only allowed to be with her together for an hour each day.

Outside of that hour, we were restricted to individual access to the NICU unit and wider family (including Freya’s siblings) were not allowed to visit her at all.

During this time, RMHC provided me and James with a place to stay that was a literal stone’s throw from the entrance to the hospital.

We were given free access to food, toiletries, and areas in which to attempt to decompress or kill time, even a weekly-takeaway order to break up the usual routine.

The cost of all of these elements is covered by both physical donations from businesses and the monetary donations RMHC receive every day from the general public (largely through people rounding up their orders at McDonald’s to the nearest pound!) and, most importantly, it allows affected families to ably focus all of their energy on their children.

Lewis’ target this time around is £500. As ever, any and all donations of any size are welcome and are massively appreciated.

If donating isn’t your thing or you already give to causes closer to your heart, that is absolutely fine. My only request would be that, if and when you eat at McDonald’s, please do consider rounding up the price of your order to the nearest pound. If every McDonald’s customer in the country donated a penny every day through this method, that would raise £38,000 for RMHC every 24 hours (which is a massive c. £14m a year).
