Help Ron Haufler Fight Cancer with Histotripsy

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and other supporters,

We're reaching out to everyone who knows and cares about Ron Haufler, and some of you who might not, to rally together both in his fight against cancer and the lack of treatment options in Canada. Ron grew up in Campbell River, and some of you might remember this impactful young man who at the mere age of 11 became a Tyee Club Member. Ron is now only 48 years old and has been battling bravely since his diagnosis in 2021. To those of you who might not know, what started as a colon tumor has unfortunately spread to his liver and is classified as stage 4 cancer. Despite undergoing radiation and traditional chemotherapy, the cancer has grown, and with the lack of advanced medical technology options in Canada, Ron's options are running critically low.

Attempts to work within the Canadian medical system have been dismal. When Ron’s oncologist took his case to a board of doctors, all surgical or other treatments were denied, and Ron was only given the option to try an extremely expensive chemotherapy pill that is not covered by MSP and only offers a few additional months to his life with no guarantee of success. Recently, a new treatment called Histotripsy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksq-yYrwkSM) has emerged as a beacon of hope. Through exhaustive research, we’ve found that this treatment is only available in the USA or Europe and not in Canada. It is FDA-approved and boasts a remarkable success rate of over 90%. Histotripsy offers Ron a real chance to beat this aggressive cancer. However, as with many cutting-edge treatments, it comes at a staggering cost.

Ron and his partner, Cindy Parker, have exhausted their resources, even to the extent of refinancing their home. The financial burden has been overwhelming, compounded by the fact that Ron is unable to work due to his condition and the excessive cost of living increases we are seeing in BC today. Insurance for coverage of medical procedures in the USA is not available, leaving Ron and his family in a difficult financial position.

Those of you who know Ron know him to be the most kind, generous and loving man. He has always been the first to lend a hand to others, never asking for anything in return. Ron has so much more to give and needs to survive not only for his family and friends, who love him dearly, but also to fight to bring this type of technology to other Canadians. He is determined to raise public awareness about the availability of this life-saving technology and begin the fight to bring it to Canada.

Please donate today and share this campaign widely, letting others know that you know of and support Ron and his fight against cancer. Every donation will make a difference and help to fund Ron's journey to receive Histotripsy, give him a second chance, and continue to fight for others with cancer. By supporting Ron, we are not only giving him a chance at recovery but also contributing to a larger mission of spreading awareness and advocating for advanced cancer treatments in Canada.

With heartfelt gratitude, Ron’s loving friends and family.

Note: If there is a doctor or medical professional reading this who is willing to help us by performing Histotripsy in Canada, or if there is some way in our Canadian medical system to allow individuals to opt for this procedure, even if it's at their own risk and expense, we would be eager to learn more and help spread the word.
