The Ronald Mace Memorial Scholarship Committee will consider all qualified applications for the scholarship. Preference will be given to students pursuing a career in the field of education. The attached information should be completed thoroughly and be submitted no later than April 8, 2018. Late applications will not be accepted. The recipient of the scholarship will be notified by the Park View High School Guidance Department.
From his many years working as a special education teacher to his ten years as a diagnostician, Ron always put kids first in his work. In honor of Ron and his commitment to education, I would like to continue to build the Ronald Mace Memorial Scholarship.
In April of 2010, Ron was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) while an educational diagnostician at Loudoun County Public Schools in VA. He had devoted his life to the education of students in the K-12 grades and was educated at Heidelberg Universities in Ohio & Heidelberg Germany, Kent State University and The University of Virginia.
He pushed for as long as he was able to continue in the career that he loved, having to eventually go on long term disability from his career after only 6 months of being diagnosed. The Loudoun County Public School Family, his many friends, relatives and neighbors rallied to support him as the disease progressed. Ron was an avid fitness buff, reader, scholar, gardener and world traveler. His passion always remained his students ----- especially those who were recent immigrants to the US, did not have a role model for college attendance or were in some way at a disadvantage by their family circumstances.
After only 18 months since his diagnosis, Ron succumbed to ALS.
