Ronnie Honeycutt Medical Fund

Wednesday April 5th, 2017, started like any other day for Ronnie Honeycutt - a busy day at work at his new job at the school district in Hamilton, Texas, followed by time at home with his family.  Until early evening, when Ronnie stood up from the sofa and saw spots in his right eye.

But within a few hours, it got much worse.  The spots became sticks and appeared to be floating in the room.  Ronnie’s wife Carrie googled the symptoms and became convinced Ronnie had a tear in his retina.  Then, all of a sudden, Ronnie saw a curtain of what looked like black ink running slowly up, coating his eye and obscuring his vision.  Within minutes, he could not see out of his right eye.  A frantic phone call to the local Emergency Room confirmed that Ronnie’s retina had detached.  Without immediate surgery, Ronnie would go blind.

The cruel irony is Ronnie had started a new job running the maintenance department for his local school district slightly less than three months ago, a job that has medical insurance that kicks in after 90 days of employment – three days later. Time that Ronnie did not have.  His employer tried desperately to get the insurance coverage initiated immediately but could not get it moved up.

This was a medical emergency.  Ronnie had to have surgery right away to save his sight.

Ronnie and Carrie rushed to the hospital in nearby Temple, where the surgeon confirmed Ronnie’s retina was completely detached and prayed together with them before the difficult surgery.

Praise God, the procedure appears to have been a success.  Ronnie won’t know for sure until his follow up appointment next week.   If that appointment reveals the surgery did not work or there is too much scar tissue, Ronnie may need another surgery.  What’s more, Ronnie will not be able to work for 2-3 weeks, unpaid time off, while the massive bills for his medical care continue to accumulate.

We, Ronnie’s extended family, are asking please for any help at all, $10, $25, $50, $100, whatever you can give, as soon as possible.  Ronnie’s surgery and medical care are not covered by insurance and we would be grateful for anything you could give. Thank you very much, and God bless you.
