Roofer Teige Whalen’s life changing injury
Donation protected
Teige Whalen is a Kansas native and the proud father of three. He started out as a construction worker, but last year Teige struck out on his own to create his own construction company, Whalen Roofing & Construction. Teige led a small skilled team of roofers and builders, and on the 28th of September, he secured a long-term contract to build roofs and install siding alongside another company building houses throughout the Wichita area. His business had just taken off when two days later, everything changed.
Teige was doing some landscaping around the house, cutting low branches. His ladder slipped, and Teige dropped 20 feet, landing on his right foot. Now his heel is broken in four places, and doctors say this life-changing injury will make walking difficult for the rest of his life. Until then, he will be on bed rest and crutches for at least three months. For a man like Teige, three months of inactivity is torture enough, but the real issue is that he cannot earn an income.
Teige has private medical insurance, but that’s not enough to cover his business expenses or to support his family. Truck and equipment payments come out to roughly $4,000 per month, and it will take another $2,000 to keep his family warm and fed through the winter. With Teige on the bench, his wife staying home due to COVID risk, and his children still in school, no one can bring in the kind of money they need to get by. With your support, Teige can stay afloat through these trying times, until he’s well enough that he can return to doing the work he loves.
If you cannot afford a donation, Whalen Roofing & Construction is also looking for experienced workers. If you or someone you know in the Wichita area has a background in siding, decks, or roofing, please contact us at [phone redacted].
“...let him labour, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.” Ephesians 4:28
