On January 15, well at home with his wife, he collapsed, after getting Rookie to the local ER in wolfeboro, a CT Scan determined that he had a brain bleed ( Hemorrhagic Stroke) He was then rushed by ambulance to Portsmouth hospital to the Neuro trauma unit were he underwent several CT scans, MRI and a angiogram that discovered a Arteriovenous Malformation ( AVM) this is a abnormal and rare tangle of blood vessels where the arterial blood by passes capillaries and reaches the veins. The angiogram also showed that the AVM was to deep into the back of Rookies brain for the Neuro team to operate.

At this time the Neuro surgeons are developing a plan to safely do the next procedure called " Onyx Embolization " that will block abnormal blood from the artery to the vein and reduce the pressure into the AVM. If this procedure works it reduces the risk of rupture. Several weeks after this procedure a CT scan will be performed to see if it is working. If the findings are the Onyx embolization didn't work, the neuro trauma team has a 2nd option called "Radiation therapy" this is a proton or gamma knife method that delivers a HIGH dose of radiation to the AVM in hope's that it will shrink it, while minimizing the effects to the surrounding brain tissues. This is generally a single dose treatment.

We pray one of these treatments will work as they cannot operate to get to the AVM

He was recently discharged and is resting at home in the care of his wife, he is stable and the bleed is under control at the moment. Almost 90% of the feeling is back on his left side, his balance & walking is still a challenge at this point. He is ordered to keep his stress & blood pressure down , no lifting and pretty low key till we hear from the Neuro team to move forward with the Onyx embolization
