ROSATI LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

Teaching Life Skills Through Soccer

My name is Chris White, and I have been blessed to play, coach and study men’s and women’s soccer all over the world including at Colgate, UNC, Amherst, University of Miami, Duke University, Chowan, Australia and Japan, multiple regions as part of the U.S. Olympic Development Program, La Liga clubs, PSV Einhoven, Manchester City, and Colombian Futsal Clubs . I’ve been a teacher, both at South Bronx High School in New York City and Waterville Senior High School in Waterville, Maine, and an Outward Bound Instructor in Romania, and a Whitewater River Guide. Driven by the inspiration of the inimitable Chris Rosati, who lost his battle with ALS in 2019, I have recently settled in Lewiston, Maine where a youth soccer program needs your help.

The Rosati Leadership Academy (RLA) will focus on helping 4th -8th grade students develop social, academic and athletic skills by blending the expectation of positive behavior with free-to-anyone after school soccer programs. We are currently based in an elementary school in the very heart of downtown Lewiston, walkable for a large number of kids that do not have access to consistent, reliable transportation. The school has been repurposed for myriad educational programs to help those that are willing to engage and help themselves. RLA is helping this fragile and vulnerable community by harnessing a private/public partnership approach that includes the Lewiston Recreation Dept., the Lewiston Public Schools and Bates College to name a few.

Lewiston is a proud, strong community with a long history of bridging cultures. From the late 1800s when a massive influx of poor French-Canadian immigrants came seeking work in the mills and factories of the Northeast, to the current influx of East African residents, this region has taken a lead-by-example approach in the face of shifting socio-economic circumstances for well over a century. Currently this extremely diverse school system is in a crisis with the poverty rate double the national average. The students, teachers and parents are struggling.

Please help us give these kids a chance, not charity. 100% of donations received by RLA go directly to program operational costs including equipment, facilities, clothing, travel and staff. The program focuses on experiential teaching of socio-emotional and mindful strategies to improve self-image, self-mastery, awareness, fitting-in, and feeling good about oneself; allowing kids to thrive even in the most challenging, stressful situations.  We collaborate with teachers and visit the students in school to support the cross-over of truly community-based academic and athletic success. We aim to lower disciplinary action in school, raise student academic performance, enhance community wide trust in the school system, increase soccer skills and improve post-graduation quality of life.

RLA is a 501 C-3.
