Rose Family Type 1 Diabetes Med Bills Assistance

The Rose family is temporarily relocated to Kodiak, Alaska for the salmon fishing season. Last week Allyson Rose, my sister-in-law, followed her intuition and took her middle son Reuben (age 5) to the doctor because he wasn't feeling well and wasn't acting himself. In a whirlwind of an afternoon, they found his blood sugar level was 5 times what it should be and they were medivaced to Anchorage because of a sudden life-changing diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes.

After a 6 night stay in the Anchorage hospital under close monitoring and mentoring from the pediatric endocrinologist, Allyson and Reuben are back in Kodiak. The entire family is adjusting to a new life with this diagnosis and treatment plan and the hardships that come with it. Reuben had been heading toward this critical stage for months and his pancreas has not been making insulin during that time. Reuben has been the biggest champ through all of this and is making strides in getting back to his happy self but not without steep and stressful learning curves for the whole family.

Mounting medical bills and dealing with inter-state medical insurance coverage issues has become overwhelming. My sister-in-law Allyson is juggling the intensive care of Reuben's blood sugar and insulin dosages and the care of her family while Greg has been working hard at sea in the middle of the salmon season. Helping them in this small way will help lessen the burden of bills while they deal with the bigger stuff of keeping their family whole, safe and healthy.
