Rose"Bud" Needs Your Help

Tax deductible
Rose 'Bud" is a 10 month old male, yes male, Great Pyrenees, who was an owner surrender from a backyard breeder who could not sell him or his two female littermates. Many people drove by him and his four legged family everyday, but until two dedicated animal advocates approached the owner of the dogs about surrendering them, they would have spent their lives in a small dirt floor pen. Their mother was spayed as a requirement of taking the pups, and was not returned to the owner because she is heartworm positive and severely underweight. The owner was not willing to treat her, so Lilly is in our care now too. One of his sisters, Daffodil, is also heartworm positive. The neglect these dogs suffered is inexcusable. Sadly the adult male remains with this poor excuse of a human being.

All of them were given flower names, Daffodil, Lilly, Tulip, and Rose"Bud," by the workers at the boarding kennel where they are staying. He came into rescue about a month ago with a slight limp. After a visit and some x-rays with the orthopedic vet, Dr. Kent Stauffer, at Stauffer Veterinary Surgical Center, it was determined he has Medial Patella Luxiation in one of his knees that is pretty severe. This is a genetic defect most likely caused by poor breeding. As patellar luxation progresses, the patella dislocates more easily and frequently — persistently rubbing on the knee joint cartilage and leading to arthritis. The strain from the patella dislocating can also predispose dogs to other orthopedic knee conditions, such as cranial cruciate ligament rupture. He is already compensating for it by limping due to the pain, so fixing it surgically would give him the best quality of life.

Can you help us out by making a contribution toward Rose"Bud's" surrgery? He is such a sweet pup and deserves a better life and a forever home. His surgery is scheduled for May 15th. We are a 501(C)3 registered not for profit and have a Silver Guidestar rating. All of the funds raised are used for the care of the dogs.
