Rose PWee Wilkerson Transplant Fund

Thank you for taking a moment to read about our mom, grandmother of 6 boys: Tevin, JaVonte, Antonio, Rolous, III, Anton and Jayden, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend…Rose “PeeWee” Wilkerson. Rose is a wonderful and amazing mom, dedicated grandmother, loving sister, caring aunt, thoughtful niece, wonderful cousin and the best friend anyone could ever hope for. She’s always full of happiness and humor she continues to be the bright light in many people's lives and has always been such a giving and selfless individual.

We’ve humbly created this GoFundMe on behalf of our beloved Rose. She once again after 11 years has end stage kidney disease. April 2000 Rose was blessed to receive the gift of life after being on hemodialysis for four years…her first successful kidney transplant from her loving daughter Wendolyn. Rose’s kidneys initially shut down due to her battle with type 1 diabetes a disease that she’s battled since childhood.  Not only is she battling diabetes and kidney failure, she has also had several near death experiences and numerous surgeries to try to correct her vision in both eyes due to glaucoma resulting from type 1 diabetes. We never plan on getting sick or diagnosed with a disease. Illness is something that is emotionally, physically, and financially draining. For this reason we have set up an account in her name to take donations. Every little bit helps when it comes to trying to relieve the stress of medical expenses due to failing health. Unfortunately, Rose kidney’s functions at about 10% and she is required to be on Hemodialysis once again since February 29, 2012. She does her hemodialysis at Fresenius Medical Care Center 3 times a week for 3 hours and 15 minutes each session. She had been on hemodialysis for about two years when The Florida Hospital informed her in January 2015 that they should be calling her for the transplant hopefully in the near future. However, before this could take place there were many things that had to be accomplished in order for this to happen. All was done and she completed orientation which was for 2 days at Florida Hospital in Orlando, FL. She received the information of what it would cost monthly for her medication after her kidney transplant and it was about $2,500.00 a month. Well unfortunately her medical insurance has to change after she receives a kidney transplant which will cause her medication to cost $2,500.00 a month and because of this increase in medicines, Florida Hospital informed her she would not be eligible to remain on the transplant list because based on her income she could not afford the $2,500.00 a month mandatory medications.

Rose was also informed by the financial coordinator that she needs at least $3,000 to show before she can proceed on the list. She is unable to work due to her life threatening illnesses and has been on disability since 2012. She has Medicare insurance which only covers 80%, so she is left with 20% to pay out of pocket. Her only income is SSA (Social Security Disability). This money is required in advance to ensure she has enough finances to cover all the expenses after the kidney transplant; including medicines, traveling about 2 hours away to post doctors’ appointments, lodging, doctor’s bills (copays), and any other unforeseen expenses.

We all know what a financial burden needing any type of medical attention can put on family resources. Rose needs our help in easing this burden. This is a VERY serious surgery. The hospital stay will be 7-10 days, along with 2 months of recovery. There are so many expenses that she will incur that insurance will not be covering. Obviously, the future is uncertain and despite her illnesses Rose is strong, determined and continues to be optimistic. This is our chance, as family, friends and loved ones to show Rose our love, support, and share hope with her and her family.

We are raising funds to help relieve the financial expenses from the transplant and recovery, which Rose will incur. The costs associated with the transplant is very expensive including medical bills, travel costs (the transplant center is over an hour and a half away and she will have to travel to the clinic 3 times a week for the next few months, her life literally depends on making each appointment), antirejection medications (Rose will be on 20 different medications some for the rest of her life). Keeping everything sterile, the appointments and a special diet are all things that have to be done in order to help keep her healthy post-transplant.

Rose is very much loved and we need support to help spread the word by using the power of social media we have a unique opportunity to help her and we are asking that you donate to her cause at (GoFundMe Title: Rose PWee Wilkerson Transplant Fund)

Any help you can collaborate with us will be more than appreciated and will have a tremendous impact on her future. She needs to be placed back on the kidney transplant list ASAP, because not only is she fighting for her life, but she is also fighting against time.

Although the journey ahead for our family will be unimaginably stressful, we know we have family and friends that will join in solidarity praying and donating funds to assure that Rose will continue living a quality life.  There is no donation to small or large. Thank you for taking the time to read about our beloved Rose and thank you for helping us for Rose. So again, let’s pull together to donate and help reach our goal for Rose!!!  We know it will not reduce or even eliminate her battle, but it will help reduce the stress. Please think about giving to such an amazing inspirational woman.
