Rosie's Cancer Fund Aka Big 'Zee v the Big C:
As most of you may well be aware by now, Rosie's been spending much of this year battling series of problems, starting with a dodgy pancreas, culminating in the most dreaded of diagnoses - cancer. The story of her diagnosis and journey so far is best told in her own words, which she shared here... Rosie Goodman: my big, druggy, medical holiday
Her blog post details some of her tribulations, whilst retaining her characteristic sense of humour and amazing outlook on life. The upshot of her diagnosis is that she's got a rather aggressive form of Lymphoma and she's on a concentrated course of chemotherapy at the moment and is, at the time of writing, just past the half way mark. To be afflicted with cancer is a terrible thing, particularly at the young age of 23. But, in Rosie, cancer's ability to dampen spirits has truly met its match. It has been nothing short of inspiring to see the way she's dealt with a series of blows that would even make Buddha crack a frown. All the while she has kept her head held high and kept a hold of that positivity that we all love her for.
Unsurprisingly, Rosie's been unable to work for the past few months, and she's also been thwarted by absurdly stringent regulations that have prevented her from being able to claim the benefits that would give her enough money to get by. Rosie might not complain about the financial strain of keeping up with rent payments in London and travelling to frequent hospital appointments, but we can all understand how a lack of income would make this nearly impossible. And that's why we've set up this page - any donations- large or small- will help Rosie pay for basic things like food and rent, and to afford any other home comforts that will help take a load of her already fairly heavily laden mind over the next few months. The money you donate will be given directly to Rosie, but if cash isn't your thing, there are plenty of other ways you could help out: Food deliveries; materials to fuel her recently taken up hobbies (including knitting); even just your company, all are more than welcomed! Feel free to contact us and we can pass on her address. Please do donate what you can, and together we can make Rosie's ride to recovery down the chemo highway as smooth as possible. Hopefully we can do something great, like keeping Rosie's ever growing collection of wigs in full splendour, and getting her back to a healthy bank balance and the healthy Rosie that even Harambe would be proud of.
We'll leave you with some of Rosie's own words:
“I’m a happy person, every day I wake up happy and I will shout out a big ‘fuck you’ to cancer if it thinks it can take that from me. And to anyone who experiences this in any similar way, friendships, love and your amazing brain are your greatest weapons.”
