Hi, I am Wendy Boyd, I am Ross Richerson’s MeeMaw.
He story began when my son Thomas Sumner and his true love Jada Criss met and fell in love. They were absolute perfect for one another. Neither of them had any desire to have children and they were married. Jada’s sister, Darla Richerson and her husband Michael Richerson wanted a baby for many years and were unsuccessful. Darla asked Thomas and Jada if they would have a baby for them. We all know how expensive IVF and surrogacy is. Well the Good Lord blessed Jada with a pregnancy for Darla and Michael to adopt after birth. Jada was a very bad diabetic. We found out a couple of months before birth there may be some birth defects.
Ross Michael Richerson made his debut on Mothers Day at 12:09, May 10, 2001 via emergency c-section. He weighed 6lbs 1 oz and was 14 inches long. A birth his blood sugar was extremely low. He was transported to a NICU hospital about an hour away and stayed there over a month. During his stay, it was determined he was born with one kidney, club feet, without a tailbone or the bone above the tailbone, and a portion of something at the base of his brain wasn’t fully connected. His condition is called Caudal Regression Syndrome.
After his birth and the adoption his biological mom (Aunt Jada) went to be with the Lord on August 30th due to a brain aneurysm. I feel like God had a plan for Baby Ross way before Thomas and Jada even met!
Ross has had way to many doctor appointments at Arkansas Children’s Hospital over the last 2 years to count. His feet have been casted several times. He has had surgery on his feet once also and will have to have at least one more. He also wears “magic shoes” and a bar when not casted. He is told he may walk with a walker and braces but primarily will be in a wheelchair. He does have to get tested every six months for his one kidney. He does have one eye that semi crosses. His neurologist says he will be high risk for Autism and possibly seizures but only time will tell with that. This month he will get a walker and wheelchair!!!! He also got approved to go to Hope Landing in Eldorado which is an amazing therapy center for kids. But it is 45 miles from their house. He also makes numerous trips to Little Rock. We have a Facebook Page Ross Richerson Updates we’re you can follow in his progress. Mom and dad have struggled the last 2 years with medical, special need items, gas, wear on their vehicle, hospital stays, etc. I am hoping this page will help them get a suv or van that will be easier to help negotiate his special needs. Also, to help with gas and travel expenses. If your not able to help financially please keep Ross in your thoughts and prayers! We believe he will do great things!!!!
