Ross Stricklands Stroke Rehabilitation
Donation protected
As many of you know, your friend and golf buddy, Ross Strickland, suffered a stroke on 9/2/2022.
This stroke has left Ross paralyzed on the left side of his body. He spent a week in TGH NeuroTrauma ICU and has recently been transferred to a rehabilitation facility closer to home that Medicare has provided.
Ross is a Navy Veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He said this recovery, thus far, is worse than any combat training or war experience he has ever had to endure. He is suffering in many ways, but mainly not being able to get out and play golf and live an active lifestyle like he is used to.
Before his stroke, Ross led an extremely regimented lifestyle, including exercise and a strict diet (with a cheat here and there) due to being an insulin-dependent diabetic. After being put into the hospital and now into Rehab, his lifestyle has been turned upside down.
Stroke victims' best chance of recovery is through rehab, which happens in the first three months of having a stroke.
Medicare only covers his rehabilitation at Solaris Healthcare in Plant City until the end of September. He is receiving three different therapies to regain his quality of life. OT, PT and Speech, five days a week. To stay at Solaris and receive the best, most appropriate rehabs it will cost $195 a day. We are asking for donations to help cover his rehabilitation while we still cover his other expenses, such as special dietary needs that the rehab is not covering and paying his bills. All your donations are greatly appreciated to help try to give Ross the best chance at recovery we possibly can.
His current medical update as of 9/20/2022:
He is currently at Solaris Healthcare in Plant City. He does have some feelings on his left foot and hand, but not much. The right side of his body is functioning as it should be. He can hold a cup and drink by himself. He can talk with a slur but sometimes stumbles. Just after three days of speech therapy, his talking has improved! He is starting wheelchair therapy next. He is having some brain fog and a lot of depression as he feels there are no improvements, but we can see them after every passing day. He is so thankful for the friends and family that have taken the time to come up and visit.
Visitors are welcome; he is in room C7. They have strict COVID policies, so everyone must wear a provided N95 mask and face shield.
