ROSWELL WARMING SHELTER
Donation protected
You may all have noticed that the days are getting colder and colder and with it is the reminder that Winter is near. This year is expected to be colder and wetter than usual all thanks to the El Nino weather pattern. Because of this the Roswell Community Disaster Relief alongside many other volunteer organizations have made a commitment to operating Roswell's only official Warming Shelter. Well we hope too, however there are many issues we face that to date has not allowed for us to plan anything. We hope to open a temporary warming shelter in the event of a cold weather event where the temps reach 32 degrees or colder or a temp when added to wind chill equals 32degrees or colder in addition to an expected snowfall of 3" or more for 2 days or more. This type of weather event would surely affect the lives of those experiencing homelessness, as well as families with children or the elderly who do not have access to adequate heating or electricity in their homes.
We are seeking the publics help with covering some of the costs associated with such a shelter. Everything from paying for Security, Utilities, and at this point paying a lease on a location since to date we have not found a landowner with a suitable building willing to donate the building during the duration of the winter season. At this time the City of Roswell has not made available the use of any building siting that there are no useable locations so we have no other choice than to reach out to our community for help.
We have a Shelter Action Plan in place and available volunteers and community leaders from multiple non profit organizations ready to go but we need your help. I can't stress how true the phrase "every penny counts"! We thank you and hope you would consider making a donation for this good cause. We can make this happen!
