Roundstone Community Centre Renovation

Roundstone Town Council and RoundstoneForFun which, over the last six years, has raised funds for Cancer Research and the redevelopment of the Community Centre in Roundstone is looking for your help to support our project.

The community centre, which was built in the late 1950's, is in need of urgent remedial work. A recent survey concluded that the extent of dilapidation is quite stark. This is mainly due to the following;

In summary it was noted that a full renovation needs to take place and the longer that this is left undone the worse it will get. We have received planning approval for the work required which it is estimated will cost €490,000. Our committee is currently liaising with multiple government bodies and other agencies to apply for grants to carry out this work. In order to achieve this funding it falls upon us to raise a percentage of the overall total required. Through the activities of RoundstoneForFun we have already raised €42,000 and have donated a similar sum to cancer research.

We have already submitted a fully costed proposal to Galway County Council under its Climate Action Programme for funding with regard to the maintenance and modernisation of the community centre. The Council has validated that the committee has submitted all relevant information with regard to the application and we are therefore well positioned to make applications to other committees in this regard. We expect news about the outcome of the proposal in August.

While the Community Centre primarily serves the local population it is obvious that it provides benefits to the wider community in the county and, through its visitors, throughout the country.
