Rowan's surgery for Metopic Craniosynostosis
Donation protected
I am writing this on behalf of my grandson, Rowan and his parents. Their youngest, Rowan (9 months old), was recently diagnosed earlier this year with Metopic Craniosynostosis. It was discovered that the structure of his skull fused prior to birth, causing a ridge in his forehead.
At his 6 month wellness appointment, my daughter, Ronna, brought concerns up as the ridge had become noticeable to the touch and appearance. And she didn't remember their oldest son having this as an infant. They were referred to a plastic surgeon at Akron Children's for further examination where a CT scan was ordered.
The results of the CT showed his skull was triangle shaped from the temple to the middle of his forehead. Leaving this alone would cause issues down the road, such as vision issues, behavioral/mental changes, as well as, seizures. Pressure in the skull from the growing brain has been a concern to monitor already.
Since then, they've met with the neurologist who will be assisting the plastic surgeon in surgery and pre-op bloodwork has begun to prepare my grandpiggy for his surgery in August.
The surgery will consist of an incision from temple to temple to remove the skull in the forehead so it can be reshaped. This will allow the brain room to grow. The surgery will be a minimum of 6 hours long with a stay in the ICU followed by a few overnight stays at the hospital overall. Recovery is expected to be 3 months.
I wanted to create this GoFundMe to help my daughter and son in law as they navigate this hard journey and hope to alleviate any financial burden so they can focus on what truly matters- their two boys as they prepare for Rowan to undergo his operation.
Thank you so much for all of your support and prayers!
