Sarah Barlow Sponsored Headshave Charity Fundraiser

Hi my name is Sarah and as most of you will know, I am a 52 year old woman living and working in Devon. I am planning to get my head shaved for charity in memory of my lovely dad Dave Brindley, on Friday 28th March 2025.

I want to raise money for Rowcroft Hospice, Torquay (Charity no:828723) and Exeter Leukaemia Fund (Charity no:1154727). Both of these charities helped my dad and us, his family, during his fight with cancer.

Rowcroft Hospice cares for around 2,500 patients and their loved ones across South Devon every year. The patients come from all walks of life. Whether you’re 18 or 80, if you have a life-limiting illness such as cancer, heart disease or MND. Rowcroft offers inpatient and outpatient support for patients as well as their families, all for free due to generous donations from the public.

My dad was always scared of hospitals, but thanks to Rowcroft and their nurses, he got a special bed put in the lounge at home and nurses to visit him for the last few weeks of his life. This meant Dad was able to achieve his wish of being at home at the end of his life and not in hospital. The nurses also helped us after dad had passed away and were so kind and caring and patient with us.

Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) provide support to patients, and their families, with blood cancer and other disorders, who attend the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. Having Elf based at Exeter Hospital serving tea/coffee and refreshments was a god send during all the waiting times and the volunteers were always so lovely. I received free bereavement counselling through Elf after my dad died which was so helpful. They also offer transport, counselling, accomodation, a free Will service, patient grants. legal help to patients and their families to name just a few.

Both of these charities helped us so much during a very hard time.

Both charities rely on donations to be able to keep running and offering these amazing free services to patients and families around the area.
