Help ease Rowdy Adams Medical Bills

UPDATE 4/10/24: I havent shared an update on Rowdy’s medical journey so I thought I would do that now. Unfortunately, Rowdy’s health battles have continued. As you recall, Rowdy was first diagnosed with Myelofibrosis in April 2023 and he started ongoing chemo treatments which were $50,000 a month for one medication. He was then diagnosed with colon cancer which led to an open sigmoid colectomy surgery where they removed over a foot of his colon. It took 65 staples to close him up. What was to be a 3 day hospital stay turned into 21 days due to complications from the surgery. As you can imagine, due to the severity of the 6 hour surgery recovery time has been quite extensive. Before the colon surgery he had to stop his chemo for the myelofibrosis. Once he was stable from the colon surgery he started follow up chemo for the colon cancer. He has been on that chemo for 5 months and has 2 more months to go. Once he is finished with chemo for the colon cancer he will go right back on the chemo for the bone marrow cancer, the myelofibrosis. Needless to say that much chemo takes quite a toll on you. Rowdy hasn’t been able to work for 7 months. He does not like to impose on anyone and really did not want me to start this GoFundMe but I see his everyday struggle and I’m just trying to help out an amazing person and a dear friend who got a double dose of cancer. Anything you can do to help will be much appreciated and please keep those prayers coming.

original post : Hello, my name is Barb Reilly. I am fundraising for my long time family friend Rowdy Adams who has recently been diagnosed with Myelofibrosis. Myelofibrosis is a rare bone marrow disorder/cancer in which excessive scar tissue forms in the bone marrow and disrupts the body’s normal production of blood cells. This causes fatigue, difficulty in breathing, easy bruising and bleeding, abdominal pain due to an enlarged spleen, night sweats, fever, and many other symptoms. Myelofibrosis is not curable, however, after many tests and visits with doctors and specialists his team of doctors have a plan of attack that they hope will stop the progression of his symptoms and the disease. If the treatments do not work then a bone marrow transplant would be necessary. His team of doctors are hopeful the current treatment works as a transplant of this nature would come with many potential life threatening complications.

The chemo medication Rowdy is taking is in excess of $50,000 per month, this equates to more than $600,000 per year for his medication alone. He has made multiple trips (with many more to come) to The Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. Additionally he will need to continue weekly blood tests to be sure he is responding to the medication as the doctors hope. Rowdy has health insurance, but of course not all of his medical bills are covered and he will quickly hit the cap on his benefits. Any amount you can contribute will help immensely. Thank you in advance and please hold Rowdy and his family in your prayers!
