This project was inspired by my family's experience with my father, Roy Anthony Muña, the 82nd COVID-19 related fatality. Our experience paired with research and feedback from the nursing administrators enabled us to launch our 1st project. We created non-verbal communication boards with the reverse side being a dry erase board for patients to elaborate on their needs/thoughts to their medical team and also their family/friends. We call them R.A.M.P. Boards.
The vaccine, low positivity numbers and hospitalizations on a downward trend are so welcome but because we must move forward slowly to ensure things continue in this direction, patients continue to fight their battles without their caregivers/loved ones by their side. This is probably the most heartbreaking experience of our lives in not being able to physically support my dad during a time when he needed us the most.
We are compelled to help make things just a bit more bearable for patients and their loved ones as well as to assist the amazing medical teams who are sacrificing so much to not only medically attend to patients but to take the place of their caregivers who are not able to be there (and understandably so to ensure everyone's safety).
To those who have family at the hospital and are in a similar situation where your family member is unable to communicate verbally or has difficulty doing so (covid related or not), please feel free to reach out if you wish us to create a R.A.M.P. Board for you to drop to your loved ones.
Lastly, we would like to express our deepest gratitude for the outpouring of support for this project. We are so grateful and inspired by seeing our community come together to help support those who are struggling through these unprecedented times. Thank you so much!
