Roy Ettinger - Wall of Stars Nomination
Roy Ettinger was an expert musician based in Binghamton, NY. He was a singer, BMI songwriter and lead guitarist in multiple bands (including Dice) touring the Northeast United States throughout the '60s, '70s and '80s. Roy wrote, recorded and distributed original songs throughout his life and was working on new tunes until the time he left us.
Roy was the owner and main instructor at the Roy Ettinger Guitar School, which has been located in downtown Binghamton for over 40 years. First, in the Larkins Music building and then the historic Weeks & Dickinson building for the past 39 years. His passion for music, his deep understanding of music theory, as well as his unique teaching style attracted guitarists of all skill levels from all over New York and Pennsylvania. Throughout his career, Roy has worked with hundreds of students (some for over 15 years) allowing them to learn guitar in an intuitive way, building their confidence lesson by lesson and helping them gain a deeper appreciation and understanding for the art of playing guitar.
Most importantly, as with any of the great teachers who've impacted our lives, Roy was much more than just that to his students. He was a mentor, a friend and a confidante. For 40 years, he was always willing to listen, to lend a hand to those in need and to help in whatever way he could. Whether it was helping students through difficult periods of their lives, writing them college letters of recommendation, or simply providing a safe place for them to be themselves, Roy has unquestionably touched the lives of hundreds of people and forever enriched his community. It is for this reason the Friends of the Forum have chosen to recognize him with his very own star on the Wall of Stars.
Your donation will go towards the cost to create and install Roy's star to be displayed at the Forum Theater in downtown Binghamton.
We all miss Roy more than words could ever describe but are grateful that his talents live on in his students and we can still listen to his music.
Love,
Family and Friends of the Guitar School
