Yesterday we lost our little Border Terrier Baxter, and words will never describe the hole that has been left. He was a unique character, and we were so very blessed to have him in our lives.
Baxter’s story:
On Saturday 11 May he was admitted to Langfords Small Animal Hospital where imaging confirmed gallbladder mucocele. His underwent surgery to remove it and the op was a success. Sadly, he went downhill, and had to be rushed back into theatre a few days later - his gastric feeding tube had caused an abscess near his stomach. A second surgery saw the tube removed and stomach sutured, with a new feeding tube inserted into his neck.
He ended up suffering with oesophageal soreness because of the reflux, regurgitation and the tube. Almost a week later he seemed to be doing really well but took a turn for the worse and suffered massive swelling in his legs and around his neck, with a high temperature and racing heartbeat.
We found out he had a second abscess in his leg, caused by the first abscess and were discussing options. Unfortunately, the infections became too strong and resistant to all antibiotics, spread rapidly throughout his body and lungs, and there was nothing more we could do.
He went to sleep peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday 29 May 2024, with kisses and cuddles.
We are being assisted by Border Terrier Welfare, a registered charity who help Border Terriers in need. Their representative Vanessa Jessop has been so incredible, and we can’t thank her enough. All donations made
via this page will go straight to paying Baxter's vet bill.
We want to say a huge thank you to our family, friends, the BT community and to Baxter himself. Your generosity, support and kind words – we just can't express enough our gratitude for it all.
