Emergency Rent
Donation protected
In September of 2016, Cross went into the hospital for a slow growing but invasive brain infection. He had his shunt removed and the doctors put in an external shunt and left his head open so as to put antibiotics directly on his brain. His visit to ICU took 12 days and he had several brain sergies and went through a period of being comatose because one of the shunts got blocked. Then began his long walk to wellness. After 6 weeks he was given an appt a month out for an evaluation with a Nuero Psyc doctor. He was deemed fully disabled. She sytated that we got evaluated so late that his chances of improving at all were greatly diminished. She said he could never return to being an engineer. In fact, she stated, he is unable to learn a new job because the part of his brain that was affect was his short term memory.
We were put on Cigna long term disability through his work and tolk that it would last until 2030 but that we needed to apply for SSD. We did that. We are still in the midst of that process. On Thursday 4/13/2017 we received a call that Cigna was dropping Cross' case, primarily, we believe because he doesn't have a current Psyc report (ours is one year old) and he isn't seeing a doctor for his memory issues.
We are appealing but that takes a while and we have 2 weeks to come up with $850 for rent. Starr is applying for work like crazy but even if she got a job today, there wouldn't be a paycheck to cover rent in time. Starr hasn't been working because she has been caring for Cross. Now they are faced with leaving him alone a large part of the day this concerns the whole family.
We would like help in the following ways: prayer, a job for Starr in the social services or cerical realm (She has a BA in Social and Behavioral ) and donations towards rent. After working for a month, they will be able to self-supporting although it is doubtful that she will be able to earn what Cross had been receiving.
Thank you for considering this compassionate gift.
