UPDATE: On July 3rd, Steven Hainzl was allowed to “retire”. But not before penning and posting a defamatory letter. No steps toward retribution have been made. The financial burden of securing legal counsel is weighing heavily on those involved.
URGENT: ILLEGAL INTERROGATION by AMERY, WI Police Chief. We need your support on a serious matter that has recently unfolded in our community. On May 11th, 2023, Police Chief Steve Hainzl crossed a dangerous line when he interrogated his employee, Bethany Eskro, for simply taking a photograph of the publicly posted Amery City Council Agenda and sharing it with friends. This is a clear violation of her rights and an abuse of power. This interrogation came after well documented evidence of retaliation against Bethany Eskro and others after they filed an ethics complaint. Shockingly, this police chief has faced no consequences for his actions, and Eskro has returned to her station under his direct supervision without any protections in place. This cannot be allowed to stand! We must take action to protect our fundamental right to Free Speech and hold those in positions of authority accountable for their actions. I urge you all to consider donating to this cause, contacting the city council members and making your voice heard. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that justice is served. Unfortunately protecting our constitutional rights comes with a hefty price tag. We cannot do this without your help. Let's stand up for what's right and fight against this injustice.
