I'm Dan, and I'm a volunteer firefighter, first responder, and Search and Rescue K9 handler.    The picture is of Gustav, the SAR dog.   Gustav has stood ready to track missing children and adults for a little under 2 years.   We've gone out in the middle of the night and in freezing cold weather.

Gustav was recently diagnosed by the Ohio State vet school as having bilateral elbow dysplasia.   He needs twin arthroscopic surgery to keep up his search and rescue work - actually, to have any quality of life at all.   The money will be used to pay the cost of the surgery.

Gustav has been a volunteer all his life helping others. Now he is in pain. He looks at me with his deep soft eyes and asks for my help. I will do everything I can for him, but I've recently retired and our fixed income can't stretch to cover this.

My goal is to get him healthy again so that someday we can save the life of somebody who is lost and in need.
