Support for Ruben Olivares' Family

Our beloved community member Ruben Olivares tragically passed away on January 23 from gun violence. Ruben was about to celebrate his 37th birthday on January 24 and was proud of having just bought a new home where he was about to move with his wife and two young daughters.

Ruben was a genuine, loving, thoughtful, sincere, and admired person by his community and all those who shared a moment with him. Anyone who met Ruben can tell you a story about his generosity, his laughter, smile, and friendliness. As the Health Equity Program Manager at Northwest Center in Belmont Cragin, Ruben worked with his team to impact thousands of community residents with vaccine access, resiliency training, and healthy food access. He was also much loved through his work at La Canasta Bakery, where he worked with his mother and built connections to so many people in our community.

Whether it’s baking a cake for residents, knocking doors to get residents to events to support them, or helping a coworker out, we could always count on Ruben to have the community’s back and do whatever he could to help. We’re hoping to return that kindness and help his family during this incredibly difficult time. We are asking for your donation to support Ruben’s family and legacy in the community.

Nuestro querido miembro de la comunidad, Rubén Olivares, falleció trágicamente el 23 de enero a causa de la violencia armada. Rubén estaba a punto de celebrar su 37 años el 24 de enero y estaba orgulloso de haber comprado recientemente una nueva casa donde se mudaría con su esposa y sus dos hijas pequeñas.

Rubén fue una persona genuina, cariñosa, detallista, sincera y admirada por su comunidad y por todos los que compartían un momento con él. Cualquiera que haya conocido a Rubén puede contarte una historia sobre su generosidad, su risa, su sonrisa y su amabilidad. Como Gerente del Programa de Equidad en Salud de Northwest Center en Belmont Cragin, Ruben trabajó con su equipo para impactar a miles de residentes de la comunidad con acceso a vacunas, capacitación de resiliencia y acceso a alimentos saludables. También fue muy querido por su trabajo en La Canasta Bakery, donde trabajó con su madre y construyó conexiones con tantas personas en nuestra comunidad.

Sea cocinando un pastel para los residentes, tocando puertas para que los residentes asistan a eventos que los apoyen o ayudando a un compañero de trabajo, siempre podemos contar con Ruben para que respalde a la comunidad y haga todo lo posible para ayudar.
