Ruben Morris echo location trip USA

Ruben was born with a rare genetic condition called Leber's congenital amourosis. This causes retinal dysfunction causing vision loss and In Rubens case the most severe, blind without light perception.
Ruben is a very caring bright and intelligent little boy who has a great sense of humour. As parents with a child with special needs you want the best for your child and like many families we research and find out as much information as you can to support your child. We were fortunate to meet Daniel Kish CEO worldaccessfortheblind @ a workshop in UK when Ruben was very young and as parents we were sceptical of how life was going to be for our son. However having watched and attended a workshop with Daniel kish our whole perception of Rubens future changed. Daniel uses echo location which is a technique in which he uses clicks with his tongue which sends out flashes of sound that bounce off surfaces in the environment and return to him, helping him to construct an understanding of the space around him. Daniel kish does a Ted talk on this subject which explains in more detail.
We had Daniel work for Three days in the UK with Ruben and the progress was outstanding and encouraging(as seen in video footage) that we were invited to attend more advanced echo location workshops that are based in the USA where Ruben would be able to develop and become a more confident and independent young boy. Ruben was very excited that he was able to use this skill and he has the enthusiasm and determination to progress even further with the help of the inspirational Daniel Kish. We are hoping to be able to support Ruben to get out to the states and are hoping to raise funds towards the costs involved in travel, training and accommodation to enable this dream to come true ! We thank you in advance for reading our story.
