Rubi's Music & Smoothie Lounge: MainStreet Show of Hands

MainStreet Truth or Consequences presents the Show of Hands finalist, Rubi's Smoothie & Music Lounge.

"In May 2024, during Fiesta Weekend, Ingo Hoeppner and Shennoah Bree launched an experimental, temporary/seasonal pop-up beverage concession operation on the weekends called Rubi's Music & Smoothie Lounge. The idea was to create an extension of Ingo's Art Café in the attached space in an effort to supplement the slower summer months when tourism declines dramatically, having a serious negative financial impact on local businesses especially in the downtown community.

By providing cold and frozen beverages that are in higher demand during the warmer summer season and serving consumers in a cool, eclectic atmosphere that provides live music entertainment, we have been experimenting with this for the past 4 months with much positive response from the public.

In the past six years of operating as a retail business owner serving mainly hot drinks such as coffee and tea to the local community, as well as being a solid contributor to community-based tourism building, it became apparent after 5 years in operation that we needed to expand the products offered as well as add variety to the entertainment experiences in the downtown community. Since Ingo is already leasing the neighboring address at 420 N. Broadway St./ 420 Broadway Event Space which is currently a multi-use event space that hosts a variety of community-building efforts including his youth focused non-profit A.C.T. / Acknowledge Create Teach, the space has also been home to Rubi’s Music & Smoothie Lounge on the weekends through this past summer. Our hopes to build upon the already existing operation if Rubi's should win "Show of Hands" would allow us to improve the products we offer by expanding our hours of operation and our menu to include more healthy beverage and snack options, while maintaining an ongoing schedule of entertainment events that would hopefully bring more patrons to the downtown area and into the space, not just as consumers but as audience members who would in tandem be supporting not just a small business, but local and traveling artists and musicians as well."
