Rucking 26.2 for Nadine
**2nd Update** 26.2 miles are completed! I attached a few photos from the beginning, middle, and end. Thank you all for those who supported in this journey.
**Update** Thank you for everyone’s donations! Your generosity is much appreciated!! The ruck is still on for tomorrow even with the snow and cold (it wouldn’t be Wisconsin otherwise). I will update everyone once the 26.2 miles are rucked!
I am hosting a fundraiser in honor of my sister who is currently battling osteosarcoma. She picked the Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund as her charity. That name may sound familiar to you as Disney released the movie Clouds this past fall based on his life and rise to fame as a songwriter before his passing from osteosarcoma, a deadly bone cancer, in 2013. Since osteosarcoma is more commonly a bone cancer that impacts children and teens, she wanted the funds to go towards developing better, safer treatments for pediatric patients. Today, 100% of the money donated to Zach’s fund, over $2 million thus far, goes directly to osteosarcoma research. In the seven years since Zach’s death, researchers have made 16 new discoveries about the genetics of osteosarcoma and opened a national clinical trial to test a potentially groundbreaking drug.
Now onto the event itself.
This year has been anything but normal so might as well do a not-so-normal sort of fundraiser...
I will be rucking (walking with a 35-lbs weighted pack) for 26.2 miles in the middle of December here in Madison, Wisconsin. The idea revolves around the idea that she, her husband, and kids are not alone in carrying the load.
I will not be alone in this journey. I have family members and local friends who will be joining me for parts of the marathon trek (masked up and distanced of course).
The money will go towards investing in the most effective research, collaborating with the most talented minds, inspiring and educating advocates worldwide to take action. Please watch the video if you are interested in learning more about the crazy idea and share with your friends and family!
