Rudy Sawyer - Hurricane Dorian Relief

ABOVE is Rudy Sawyer (1971-1974 SJU Track & Field Teammate) with one of his many Kayaks prior to Hurricane Dorian, which hit the Bahamas with 185 mile an hour winds.  

Rudy was a tremendous athlete at SJU, gaining All-American honors by placing 2nd in the Triple Jump in the 1974 NCAA D3 National Championships.   

Upon leaving SJU, he returned to his homeland in the Bahamas and eventually started the business BLUE GREEN OUTDOORS, which offers ecological tours of the islands history, natural beauty and fascinating bird populations.  

Unfortunately,  a significant portion of Rudy's business and home were  devastated by the massive Hurricane Dorian this year (September 2019) and he (as well as much of the population) are faced with a massive re-building task, with little insurance or government help.  

Though we cannot help all, we can help one individual and his family. One we have known in the past and has a lifelong kinship with us as a Johnnie, as well as those who recall Rudy as a teammate on the Johnnie Track & Field Team.

Our initial goal in this funding effort ($7,500) is to help Rudy re-build his Kayak fleet which rather disappeared  due to Dorian.  Additional funds will go towards a trailer and other needed equipment.  If we can raise more, Rudy will use it judiciously in re-building structures and other assets that were destroyed.   Please consider donating to this GoFundMe account which will go directly to Rudy, his family and his business.
