The world lost a great man and became a little less happy with the passing of Rufus Washington on November 9th. Rufus lost his brave and courageous battle with cancer at age 72. Rufus never gave up the fight, the game clock just ran out.
Rufus is one of the greatest men you could know. Kind, hardworking, honest, and full of charity. Though by worldly standards he would not be considered a wealthy man, those who had the pleasure of knowing him realized how rich of a life that he lived. Rufus was always the first to step forward and offer a helping hand or extend a hand-up to someone in need. It is safe to say that never a negative word was uttered about Rufus Washington and likewise he always was positive and focused on the blessings of his life.
Though Rufus’s wife passed while his son Isaiah and his daughter Salena were both very young; Rufus worked very hard, putting in many hours each week to provide a home of love for his kids. It was important to Rufus that his kids knew that he loved them and would always provide for their needs. He set an incredible example of love and commitment for both Isaiah and Selena that they now carry into their adult lives.
The past four years of Rufus’s battle with cancer took a toll on him physically and financially. He stayed positive and did the best that he could to continue to support himself and set an example for his kids. Upon Rufus’s passing, there are many financial needs that Isaiah and Selena are trying to satisfy. They also have a great desire to provide a dignified final acknowledgement for their great father.
With Isaiah being 29, and Salena being 27 years old, they both have a long road ahead of them without any parents. We all know how hard it is to get through life with the help of our parents, both of them now have to do it on their own. We have never done one of these before, but we think if anybody deserves a little help these two do. They have the rest of their lives to live without any financial help from their parents.
As longtime friends of Rufus Washington, we have set up this campaign asking that you consider the blessings of your own life and impart what you can to support this worthwhile cause and try to help off-set the expenses that the Washington family is facing. Anything you can spare will help this family in a time of great need. Any amount is appreciated, $20, $50 $100, or more.
May God Bless Rufus Washington and his family.
