Why am I Running 100miles (160KM)?  &  Why am I raising funds for The Charlene Reaveley Children's Charity?

Run is begin held JUNE 7 2019. In San Diego.

My name is Mike Huber. I am 45 years old and a local resident of Maple Ridge BC.  I am a husband to my loving wife Shannon and we have been together nearly 23 years.  Together we raise 3 children, Anna 15, Isaac 13,  Lily 9.  We have known the Reaveley family for many years but have more recently become closer and learned of the events that changed the dynamics of their family forever, the loss of Charlene Reaveley as a result of a hit-and-run accident by a drunk driver and the catylst for the Charlene Reaveley Children's Charity.

I have always believed in life one must challenge their doubts. I believe when we do this in almost every case the outcome on the other side is usually the most uplifting moments of one's life.   In the last 19 months I took up running again after nearly 18 years away.  I began with 5KM and could barely finish without walking, then 10KM, 21KM, 42KM, 50KM and then 80KM.   Each step along the way I found new doubts and have challenged these to reach my goals.  I can truly say the moments on the other side and during these runs have been some of the most uplifting and reflective moments in my life.

When thinking about my next challenge I began to dream "BIG".  Can I run 100 miles? Why would I run 100 Miles?  Well, during one of my long training runs the day after attending the 2018 Charlene Reaveley Gala  I began to reflect on the night, my life and that of our friends.  I felt so inspired by the strength of Charlene's husband Dan as he shared what he and his family created out of such a tragic situation.   Dan channelled and challenged his doubts and as a result of his love for his family Dan created a legacy for Charlene.  This foundation to me truly illustrates what it means to to face ones doubts.

Now nearly 9 years after its creation this foundation is changing lives and supporting other families in our community to challenge and support what they may feel is impossible.

I know that running 100 miles is just a small mountain to climb.  This could never be compared to the loss of a loved one.  I only hope that as I draw inspiration from the legacy of what Dan and his family are sharing with our community you also might be inspired to support my run and my efforts to be a small part of giving back to such a wonderful charity.

So when people ask why I want run 100 miles ( http://www.sandiego100.com) - I reply,  "To challenge my doubt and at the same time, give support and attention to such a worth while and inspiring society, THE CHARLENE REAVELEY CHILDREN'S CHARITY.

ABOUT CRCCS:

The Charlene Reaveley Children’s Charity Society (CRCCS) was created in Spring 2011 by Charlene’s husband Dan Reaveley. After suffering the loss of his wife in a tragic hit-and-run accident by a drunk driver, he was left to pick up the pieces of their shattered dreams, becoming the sole financial provider and caregiver to their four children.

Char’s passion for children and desire for a closer community was his inspiration. Charlene would do anything to make a child smile or just to see a little sparkle in their eye – this was the spirit of Charlene that motivated Dan to reach out and support families experiencing a loss.

The Charlene Reaveley Children’s Charity was created to offer support and assistance to grieving children and their families.  What was needed in Dan’s experience was counselling without financial burden, access to books and resources within the community and a connection to families who were also experiencing a loss in their lives.

CRCCS was created to keep Charlene’s memory alive and to help other children and their families going through similar circumstances, providing them with much-needed counselling and support.

The Charlene Reaveley Children’s Charity is a non-profit organization offering support and assistance to families with children experiencing the loss of a loved one.
