Run 500 miles in my Garden for two good causes
Donation protected
On 13 April, I covered 175.09 km in one week in my garden to make up for the four marathons I had planned to run that had been cancelled due to COVID -19 (https://www.ilfordrecorder.co.uk/news/harmander-singh-completes-four-marathons-in-his-garden-1-6609984 . It took me 1712 minutes and 192,233 steps that were recorded on my phone. Upon reflection I ought to have raised funds for the NHS like Captain Tom Moore.
Well, I intend to put that right by covering 500 miles during May to raise funds that will be shared equally by two causes. This is in addition to a full marathon distance in my garden on 26 April to replace the VLM that I was going to pace again - incidentally, I am the only person to have run the London Marathon and the Great North Run every year for the last 35 years and this year it will be 36 for both.
Cause 1 - A fully equipped Paramedic bike costs £6,000 although I would really like to go for a fully equipped ambulance that will cost £250,000.
Cause 2 - Our running club (Sikhs In The City - http://www.sikhsinthecity.org) is raising funds to build a clubhouse costing £425,000' to honour our founder member Fauja Singh (the world's oldest marathon runner whom I trained) who turned 109 at the beginning of April
My new challenge will be to cover 500 miles in my garden during the month of May. I figured that I will only need to cover 26 km daily and estimate that to take me about 5 hours a day - quicker if I walk to the pace of 500 miles by the Proclaimers.
This effort will also keep me in shape to add to my 161 marathons to date when I pace at the Virgin London Marathon on 4 October as a member of the Runner's World Pace Team
Captain Moore is inspirational even for a young 60 year old like me, I hope he is suitably recognised very soon.
Please donate generously now that the London Ambulance Service has confirmed that they will be happy to receive the funds.
Additionally, I will cover the full marathon distance in my garden on Sunday in place of the VLM but I intend to be the first to finish it among many others who no doubt will be doing the same - I will achieve this by starting at the stroke of midnight.
Many thanks in advance.
