Run Around Rarotonga

Hola, so after my 40th birthday last year I realised that I’ve got a pretty awesome life and it is thanks to the seriously great bunch of people I am surrounded by.

So with my 41st birthday coming up soon I want to share some love and pay forward some good vibes into the world. I am heading to the Cook Islands in November and I’ve decided to use the opportunity to raise some money for Ngatangiia Adventist Ministry Centre, which happens to be my partner Mouroa’s dad’s church. I am doing this by running around the island of Rarotonga. It’s a 31km loop around the island which I am going to do early one morning. Date to be advised.

Yes, you read that correctly, Garth William Sutherland is raising money for a church. This is not an autocorrect error.

I feel in the world right now it’s a little bit of history repeating. There are some old men in power either starting wars/ trying to control women’s bodies/ evoking fear about minorities being the downfall of society. I sometimes feel it’s a repeat from 100 years ago.

I personally feel our differences is what makes us unique and interesting because if we were all the same we would all be incredibly boring. Plus who wants their life to be a snooze fest? Definitely not me.

So this is the reason a gay white atheist Australian is raising money for a Polynesian Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The community facility that is being built is an inclusive space for all the community which includes the cook island LGBT community. It promotes religion, acceptance and understanding. It’s a place for the different and unique to come and feel accepted, which i think will make the world a little bit of a better place.
