Run a Spartan race for Claire: a survivor of sexual violence.
Hello,
My name is Alex (that's me on the right) and I will compete in a Super Spartan race (http://www.spartan.com/en ) on 19 September 2015, in Paris, for the first time. I will run 10 miles (16 km) and go through 25 military-style obstacles through tough and rugged terrain. I plan to run this race for Claire who trains with me at Crossfit GVA, my local Crossfit box.
Claire’s story
In 1999, Claire, an Australian citizen, was the victim of an extremely violent sexual assault and left for dead in the streets of Paris. Her attacker was caught 10 years later through DNA and sentenced to 12 years in jail. He was granted parole after 4 years.
The French judicial system required Claire to be a civil party in the prosecution and pay for all the criminal proceeding fees herself. Overall, her legal costs amount to over AUD 35,000 (EUR 25,000). Her request to be compensated for all legal costs was rejected by the relevant French court. She is now appealing the court’s decision and could create a legal precedent for victims of rape in France. She needs our support.
Claire started a GoFundMe campaign to cover some of her expenses and make a difference (http://www.gofundme.com/clairesbattletojustice ). She donates a third of the funds raised to non-profit organizations supporting victims of rape. Please visit her website: http://www.clairemc.com/ .
My Goal
I would like to raise as much money as possible to support Claire in her battle for justice and her fight against violence against women. According to UNWOMEN and a 2013 global review from WHO, 35 per cent of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence (http://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/10665/85239/1/9789241564625_eng.pdf ). These numbers must change.
100% of the funds that I receive will go to Claire's campaign. All costs related to the race itself, transportation to Paris and housing are covered by me.
Any donation will contribute to making a difference!
Please donate!
Thank you very much!
