Running Down 2020 To Support Female Journalists
The pandemic and devastation of COVID-19 have made 2020 nearly unbearable. Many professions have felt the economic impacts of the virus, including journalism. Despite the attacks on our free press coming from the highest levels of government, newsrooms have continued to deliver important reporting that has kept the public safe and informed.
Raising Money For The International Women's Media Foundation
I'm raising money to support a free and open press while also encouraging more diversity in our newsrooms. The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) works to unleash the power of female journalists to transform the global news media. It is the only organization that provides safety training, byline opportunities, and emergency support tailored to female journalists and photographers around the world. And now in 2020, after becoming a father to an inquisitive baby girl, I am especially mindful of the opportunities we are making available to the next generation of journalists.
Halloween Run
To raise awareness (and donations), I will be running a marathon around the island of Manhattan on October 31, Halloween. For a bit of fun, I'll be dressed in costume as one of the great runners from cinematic history, Forrest Gump (thanks, T. Hanks).
