Running against Brain Cancer
Help me make a difference. I am raising money for Brain Tumor Research.
Brain tumours are indiscriminate; they can affect anyone at any age. What’s more, they kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.
On the 28th of February 2021, 9 years will have passed since my mother succumbed to this terrible illness. 10 months prior to her passing she was diagnosed with a Grade 4 glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer which is extremely difficult to treat with a very poor prognosis. It really was a terrible and cruel time for mum and all of us. There were many wonderful charities that helped a great deal with her treatment and care during her illness and palliative care.
I have chosen to raise money for Brain Tumour Research. The work they perform helps to improve treatments for the many manifestations of brain cancers. Brain Tumour Research is the only national charity in the UK that is dedicated to raising funds for continuous and sustainable scientific research into brain tumours and are a leading voice calling for greater support and action for research into what scientists are calling the last battleground against cancer.
To support them I am fundraising by running a demanding route. I will run from Sheffield, then traverse the classic Edale Skyline route anti-clockwise, then run back to Sheffield. The Edale Skyline is considered a challenging run on its own. The route I have planned will be approximately 70km in distance with 1800m of elevation. I have no doubt that it will be extraordinarily challenging. I am choosing to suffer in the hope that I can help prevent others from having to.
I have had to change the date of this run due to Covid 19 restriction I am unable to properly and safely scope out the route. The new date I will complete the run is the 10th of April 2021.
Whilst I am running in memory of my mother my main motivation is to contribute towards helping improve treatments and care for these illnesses.
Thank you very much if you are able to contribute to this cause. I am also thankful if you are unable to contribute but have read my story to the end. Hopefully, you can share this too.
