Knockavoe Staff ‘Run for a Brighter Future’
This year our student council have worked tirelessly alongside local counsellors, the Riverine Project and ONSIDE Project (Disability Action) to promote their "Right to Play" (UNCRC Articles 15, 23 & 31) and taking part in the Youth Participation Panel to voice their request for an inclusive play park within their local areas.
The pupils highlighted the necessity for play parks in the local community. They explained how far families must travel to access play parks suitable to their needs. The pupils also highlighted that the outdoor facilities in our own school are not appropriate or have vanished due to extensions, increasing demand for space and budget cuts.
So, the staff at Knockavoe school, Strabane are reaching out for your help and support to raise much needed funds for our amazing pupils to enhance and develop our outdoor play facilities.
The staff at Knockavoe School are putting the pupils' words into action. Together we have embarked on a 5k challenge. Our 8-week training has had an amazing start thanks to the direction and inspiration of Athletics coach Mark Connolly. Our focus is to acknowledge and appreciate how many of our pupils face and overcome daily challenges. Therefore, on Monday 26th June 2023 up to 60 Knockavoe staff aim to step out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves to walk, run, cycle or swim 5k, in love and support of our pupils. Additional to this we also have 3 staff members running the Strabane/Lifford half marathon on Sunday 11th June 2023.
We will work together as an army of blue and yellow, holding each pupil at the heart of every step we take, to make this positive change. Knockavoe staff encourage and inspire our pupils to ‘Reach for a Brighter Future’ so now in 5 weeks it’s our turn to say ‘thank-you’ to our pupils as we take on the challenge to ‘RUN for a Brighter Future.’
Please spread the word of this very worthy challenge so that we can raise as much as possible for our pupils. We would be so grateful if you could share our Go Fund Me page that can be accessed on our school website and social media platforms. Every penny counts and will help make the Future Brighter
We will continue to persist for our children's rights, especially the "Right to Play".
