Running For Betty Morales

Betty Morales is a single mother of 2, including a 16 year old daughter and my friend Carlos.  On July 9th of 2019, Betty was diagnosed with stage 3 t-cell lymphoma, and it was spreading quickly.  She began chemo the following week at Gwinnett Medical Center (now Northside Hospital). Due to the side effects of chemo, Betty was unable able to work and she did not have health insurance which magnified an already stressful situation. The medical bills began to pile up.

After 6 rounds of chemo, Betty was diagnosed as cancer free in December!  Although she qualified for the generous financial assistance program through Northside Hospital, not all of her medical bills were covered.

As many of you know my wife Cara had a battle with breast cancer which she was cured of recently.  We were fortunate to have an amazing community around us providing support, and we were blessed with tremendous health insurance as well.  We did what we could for Betty during her treatment, providing meals and encouragement to her and her family like so many others had done for us.  

Betty's adult son Carlos is a friend of mine and like myself he was tasked as the primary source of support for his mother.  We know from personal experience that a clean diagnosis, while it is stupendous news, does not mean that all battles are over.  In asking how they are doing we uncovered an ongoing need for financial support for unpaid medical bills.  

On March 7th, 2019 I will be running a 50 mile race, the Chattanooga 50 Miler.  I am running this race for Betty to raise the funds necessary to eliminate all $6,500 of outstanding medical bills owed.  Will you please consider helping Betty and her family?  Any amount given will be GREATLY appreciated.  God bless! - Travis & Cara Payne
