Running for my Nana
Hi my name is Amelia I am running the London marathon on the 27th April to fundraise for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation in memory of my beloved Nana.
In April 2024 we received the devastating news that she had terminal lung cancer and was given weeks to live, she passed away on the 13th June 2024.
My Nana was always by my side encouraging me in all aspects of my life from baking cakes, building sand castles to following my swimming career and my recent travels around South/East Asia. Although we didn’t live close to each other my Nana was a pro at FaceTime and this is how we stayed in touch.
In her last weeks she encouraged me to do my very best when applying for an apprenticeship and I will never forget her reaction when I told her that I had applied to run the London marathon. All she kept saying was how proud she was.
So hopefully I am going to do her proud, not only by completing the marathon but also by raising money for research into the terrible disease that took her from us so cruelly.
Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation supports everyone affected by lung cancer, from diagnosis, through treatment, living with the disease and end of life care.
