BREAKING NEWS: 57 YEAR OLD DAD RUNS 30 HALF-MARATHONS IN 30 WEEKS FOR HIS KID’S SCHOOL!TAX-DEDUCTABLE CHARITABLE DONATION
When Eric Lichter turned 57 earlier this spring, he wanted to do something to commemorate it, something that would allow him to make his 57th trip around the sun unique. He didn't have to look further than to his two sons and their beloved public K8 school in South Seattle, Orca K-8. Orca K-8 is a public option school that focuses on environmental science and social justice is in need of resources to provide quality education and to keep their amazing programs up and running. The idea: “get up and running”. From March 26th until early October Eric will run a self propelled half marathon (13.1 miles) a week to raise money for Orca K-8. Each week he will map his half marathon and invite kids and parents from the Orca community to join running, walking, biking, scootering, cartwheeling along with him. Money raised from this campaign will go directly to the Orca K8 PTSA which funds many of the school's programs: The Garden Program: in which every student from K-6 has an opportunity to get in the garden once a week, learn how to cultivate and nurture food. Yearly cost $41,000 WeApp: a public speaking program from grades 4-8 where students learn how to tell their stories through writing and public speaking $28,000 Bridging Wisdom: beginning in 2nd grade the students of Orca K8 and the elders of Esperanza House are brought together to tell each other their life stories. $12,000 Film, Drama, and Art: these programs are the cornerstone of the arts department, films from the film club have won awards at the Northwest Children's Film Festival $11,000 Camps: Beginning in 2nd grade students go to camp to learn hands on in the field environmental science. $10,000 There are so many more programs the PTSA can boast about funding (Orca Plus-after school enrichment, Race Forum, Inclusion Comittee-to name a few more) but don't want to bore you, the contributor. Eric would like to raise $5,000 for Orca K-8 and will be RUNNING over 400 miles while doing so (that is roughly the distance from Seattle to Portland and back). Please support him, and Orca K-8 in the process, donate and follow along this incredible undertaking. Most importantly, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the support. Without your support these wonderful programs wouldn't exist. *All half- Marathons will be verified by MapMyRun and posted weekly.
