Running For Shelly

We would love you to help in joining me (Adam) and Kayla in making a difference.

We are raising money in aid of Target Ovarian Cancer and every donation will help.

In April 2023, myself and Kayla (Shelly's sister) will be attempting the London Marathon, in aid of Target Ovarian Cancer. This physically and mentally enduring challenge involves running 26.2 miles around the UK's capital.

As many of you may know, My wife Shelly passed away after a short battle with Ovarian cancer in July 2022. Shelly was only 45 when she was diagnosed, and lost her battle in only 10 months.

By raising money to aid in improving early diagnosis, help fund life-saving research, and provide much-needed support to women with ovarian cancer, any donation, no matter how small will really make a difference.

Why am I doing this?

Predominantly it is to raise awareness!! I am by no means a natural runner, and the training needed to complete this challenge has been grueling so far.

The London marathon is a huge endeavor, but we are both extremely determined to do this.

Awareness needs to be increased!
• In the general public (encouraging women to see their GP early if they have symptoms)
• In the medical profession (considering ovarian cancer as a possible diagnosis).
The earlier the diagnosis is made, the sooner effective treatment can be given. Target Ovarian Cancer campaigns nationally to raise awareness and provides GP training, and toolkits to increase understanding within the profession.
Ovarian cancer is a life-changing diagnosis for women of any age. Target Ovarian Cancer offers a fantastic support line, activity and support groups, and resources for women affected. Connecting with other women affected by ovarian cancer has been a lifeline for me.

41,000 women in the UK currently have ovarian cancer, 20 are diagnosed every day, and sadly 11 women die every day. Currently, only around 50% of women survive past 5 years. Ovarian cancer is notoriously difficult to diagnose and is often called "the silent killer". The symptoms can be vague and overlap with other conditions such as digestive issues, so most women are diagnosed at a late stage when the cancer has already spread.

Your Donation

£10 = 10 recently diagnosed women receive a detailed information guide to support them through their diagnosis.
£25 = Allows three GPs to access training on ensuring early diagnosis of ovarian cancer.
£50 = Pay for three hours of the nurse-led support line giving advice and information.

More information about Target Ovarian Cancer: Target Ovarian Cancer is the UK's leading ovarian cancer charity.

Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause which means so much to us.
