Running for Trans Rights

For my first half marathon run, I would like to raise money for The Trevor project! If you donate at least $10, just leave a time in the comments of the donation, and the person with the time closest to my finishing time will receive a prize of $25! There will also be subsequent prizes of $15 and $10 for 2nd and 3rd closest guesses. If you have any questions about the organization that I am supporting, please read below. Every dollar counts and I greatly appreciate any contribution that people are willing to make.
The Trevor Project is a multifaceted LGBTQ organization that advocates for queer people, supports their mental health, and offers a crisis hotline for queer individuals. As someone who has called the Trevor project in times of need, I can personally vouch for the legitimacy of their mission. Things are not great right now for the trans community and we really need your support.
For those that may not be aware, here is a brief list of the changes to US policy and infrastructure over the past few months
- The state department has stopped issuing passports with changes made to the gender markers. In some cases, they have made “application corrections” and given people a passport with the sex that they were assigned at birth
- The words “trans” and “gender” have been removed from government websites to literally erase history
- Health care providers are threatened with the revoking of licenses and funding if they were to treat someone under the age of 19 with any gender affirming care. This can even be as innocuous as hormone blockers for kids that are still figuring things out
- A ban of transgender athletes in NCAA sports (done once given the permission structure by elites)
- Medical systems are rolling back the terms of gender dysphoria or gender identity disorder in favor of transsexualism, a term from the 70’s or 80’s that basically treated being trans as a mental illness
- Additionally, the SAVE act currently circulating through congress would require people to show their passport vote. If that passport doesn’t align with other forms of identification, they would be able to question and/or prevent trans people from voting. This would in many cases make voting even more of a chore than it already is and cause marginalized and poor Americans to be discriminated against
