Running for Trinidad Pediatric Cancer Patients
Donation protected
When I was little, I had the opportunity to sit at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, thanks to my Uncle Eddie. Since then, I have dreamed of running myself. Well, that time has come.
In 2021, my Dad ran his second Boston (22 years after his first), six months after knee surgery. I was there at HeartBreak Hill, seeing the look in his face, scared he wouldn't finish or worse get hurt, but he did it! That was the hardest I have ever seen my Dad push through so much pain, but he inspired me to want to follow in his footsteps of completing this race.
My Dad may have been my inspiration to attack this childhood goal, but in taking this challenge on, I wanted to help support the efforts of a woman I admire, Dr. Jacqueline Sabga.
Dr. Sabga is my best friend’s mom, who lives in Trinidad, and is one of the most impressive people I know. As an encouraging and empathetic doctor to her patients, being on call at all hours of the day, while raising her family, she still commits time to compete in some of the most insane races including marathons in Miami, the Canary Islands, and the London to Paris marathon, where she raised half a million dollars for cancer patient support.
In recognition of her efforts I want to support her organization, Promise House TT (Trinidad and Tobago), in their efforts to sustain a "Home Away From Home" for pediatric cancer patients and their family members at her hospital in Trinidad. As you can see in this short news clip (3 mins) from last summer, the doors were first opened in June. Every dollar I collect will go to support their continued efforts to provide this free housing while going through treatments.
Anything you can do is appreciated and will be my motivation for finishing this race on April 15, 2024!
Thank you for the support,
Ellie
