Running for Young Hearts: Oxford Half Marathon for CRY
I am running the Oxford Half Marathon to raise funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), a charity dedicated to preventing sudden cardiac deaths in young people.
Five years ago, aged 15 and about to start my GCSE year, I was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect that required months of treatment and open-heart surgery to replace part of my aorta. I was lucky that I developed an infection, as it is a condition that could have easily gone undetected. Every week in the UK, at least 12 young people under the age of 35 lose their lives to undiagnosed heart conditions.
CRY is dedicated to preventing young sudden cardiac deaths by increasing awareness, providing life-saving cardiac screenings, and supporting families who have lost loved ones to these tragic conditions. CRY also funds groundbreaking research that shapes global standards for ECG interpretation in athletes and has made significant strides in understanding and diagnosing conditions.
The charity is passionate about raising awareness and helping to prevent the loss of young people to undiagnosed conditions. Every donation will help CRY continue their vital work. Thank you for your support—it means the world to us.
More information about CRY can be found on their website. Please join us in making a difference.
