Running for YoungMinds- Des and Luke
For the second year running, a number of friends and family will be running the Yorkshire Marathon, whilst others take part in the 10-mile race on the same day. On October 15th, 2023, we will be descending on the streets of York, again dedicating this to our friends Luke and Des, both of whom we tragically lost too soon. We will also be raising money for the charity YoungMinds who do incredible work in helping young people suffering from mental illness.
Many of you will have read this message last year but for those of you who are just coming across our cause, please read on.
YoungMinds are the UK’s leading charity fighting for children and young people’s mental health. With a mission ‘to make sure all young people can get the mental health support they need, when they need it, no matter what,’ we felt that this charity perfectly matched our objectives.
Those of you who were lucky enough to have met either or both of these incredible human beings will know that the loss of them both is simply heartbreaking. Sadly, along with many other young people, they were suffering to a point few of us can comprehend. Like all of you reading this, we cannot bear to see this continuing and want to bring about some change.
For us, this run is not only to raise money so that we can do something about the horrifying mental health and suicide statistics that many of you will be aware of but also to remember Luke and Des, our friends. We hope that this fundraiser is an opportunity for friends and family of Luke and Des to make a positive impact. We are also keen to highlight the wider problem whilst creating an opportunity for those with their own story or reason to have an effect on this.
