Running The Jerry Blanke Marathon for MSKCC

PLEASE READ FULL TEXT BELOW:
On October 18, 2020, I’ll be running the Jerry Blanke Marathon in memory of my father, who died last November due to complications related to liver cancer. In a matter of two months, his condition declined rapidly and we ran out of time before we could properly say goodbye. I suppose, no matter the situation, we never have enough time with the ones we love the most. He was kind and gentle and loved his family fiercely, making his children and grandchildren the center of his life. He taught me that every day is a gift to cherish, an invitation to slow down time and ensure that those for whom you care the most feel your presence and appreciation. To make sure you knew for sure how important you were to him, he looked you in the eye and put his hand on top of yours. I set this day aside to show appreciation for my father and the love that he gave me unconditionally.

The back story about the Jerry Blanke Marathon is that I was training for the Mount Desert Island Marathon in Maine when it got canceled during the summer due to COVID. Instead of abandoning the training altogether, I decided to forge ahead and create my own marathon course dedicated to my father, covering ten locations of Jerry Blanke historical significance, mostly food-related. HERE is more detail on the marathon.
My father had an aggressive form of prostate cancer 15 years ago, which was successfully removed. A surgeon at MSKCC (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center) conducted the surgery, giving me and my family a miraculous extension of 15 wonderfully rich years with my father, so that’s I why decided to fundraise for them. My dad was definitely one of the hospital’s biggest fans. The Blanke Family will be matching each donation dollar for dollar.
