Running the Leeds Half Marathon 6 months on

On the 16th of November 2022 I suffered a cardiac arrest when visiting my cousin in Leeds. Paddy and his friend Josh performed CPR for half an hour that kept me alive until paramedics arrived. I was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where I was put into an induced coma and spent the following 4 days in the ICU. I had around-the-clock care from the amazing doctors and nurses in the ICU who also took care of my family and helped them cope through it all. I was then moved onto the cardiac ward where I stayed for another 7 days. All of the staff on the ward were so lovely and made for a much easier, and sometimes quite entertaining experience whilst having various tests every day. After 6 days they concluded the cardiac arrest had no obvious cause and fitted me with a defibrillator as a precaution if it were ever to happen again.

I’ll be running the Leeds Half Marathon just under 6 months on from my cardiac arrest on the 14th of May and all of the money I raise goes straight to the Leeds Hospitals Charity. After the care myself and my family received I feel incredibly grateful to all the staff at Leeds General Infirmary, this is a very worthy cause and I would greatly appreciate any donations!

Leeds Hospitals Charity is the charity of Leeds Teaching Hospitals, which includes Leeds Cancer Centre, Leeds Children's Hospital, St James's University Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary.

They support NHS staff in their aim to deliver the best care to all patients, their friends, families and carers.

Working with local communities, schools and businesses in Leeds, each year they provide 5 million in additional funding for Leeds Teaching Hospitals, for equipment, services, education and research.
