Running the London Marathon for Mzimkhulu Trust

Donation protected
This coming April, I will be running the London Marathon and in so doing, I will also be raising funds for the Mzimkhulu Trust, that promote early childhood development in Eastern Cape, South Africa,

South Africa finds itself at an economic and social crossroad; holding so much potential and filled with a young population that could easily catapult the country to an economic success, but somehow held back by failing education standards:

If the country is struggling to educate its youth, Eastern Cape lags much worse than the national average. Despite being the home of world renowned luminaries such as Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki and Winnie Mandela. A number of public schools in the province fall short of equipping its youth with the necessary tools to take full advantage of the country’s prospects.

As a beneficiary of the good parts of the education system; bearing in mind the words of John F. Kennedy, “ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country”; and fully aware that the actions of one individual will not fix the education crisis in the country or province, I have chosen to identify one local organisation working in a localised sphere that I can support, one step at a time. When I lace up on the morning of 23rd April and take on the streets of London as one of the 50,000-odd souls taking part in the London marathon, I will be running not for myself but for the hundreds of kids supported by the Mzimkhulu Trust

The Trust is raising funds for the Lorraine Poswa Mzimkhulu Pre-school which is a registered NPO located in Gxulu Village, Libode, Eastern Cape, South Africa and endeavours to enhance the relationships between parents and children in developing education standards within the village. My personal story would not have been written were it not for the immense support and involvement of my community throughout every stage of my education journey. From my childhood education at a township school in Duncan Village, to my bachelors studies at Nelson Mandela University in Eastern Cape), followed by a Masters Programme in Johannesburg, to the current stage where I am studying a 2nd Masters in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, at Kingston University, London, my village has been there every step of the way. They have helped in nurturing my curiosity, helping with my homework, celebrating with me, and cheering me on as I have gone from one level to the next. It is this support that I would wish to see replicated in other families, hence the choice of Mzimkhulu Trust, which is excellent at doing this sort of thing.

Please give what you can and spread the word.
