Running for Wildlife
Donation protected
I am Running for Wildlife. To give them a voice and a chance at survival.
I envision forests and plains teeming with bison, wolves, grizzlies and big horn sheep. Lakes and streams saturated with salmon, trout, bass and walleye. Backyards, schools, churches and entire communities transformed into sanctuaries for urban wildlife like monarch butterflies, goldfinches, rabbits and squirrels. Families enjoying a hike and picnic in a local park, splashing in the crystal clear waters of a Great Lake and enjoying a weekend camping under the stars.
Reality paints a much bleaker picture. One third of all wildlife species are predicted to become extinct by 2050. Forests are clear cut, poorly planned development engulfs natural spaces, energy companies ravage the land through drilling and mining. Our waters are poisoned with agricultural run-off, industrial waste, invasive species and spilled oil. Children spend 8 hours a day plugged into electronic media, losing touch with nature.
We have a responsibility to be stewards of our planet for the wildlife that call it home and so generations yet to come can have clean water and know the joy that comes from experiencing the natural world.
National Wildlife Federation , my employer, works everyday to protect clean water, enhance wildlife habitat and connect people to nature.
I am proud of the work we do and will run 26.20 miles to prove it.
Help me reach my goal of $2,620 by clicking the button to donate ($100 per mile is a lot of motivation to finish my first marathon!). Half will be donated to National Wildlife Federation and half to a local conservation organization chosen by race organizers.
Please give a symbolic gift of $26.00 today to give wildlife a fighting chance.
Sincerely,
Brian
PS. Race day is Sunday, September 13. Check out the race info here and follow my progress on Facebook.
