Shane's Marathon for Stars & SBFD
In November 2016 my family went to New York to support my sister in law Emma in the NYC Marathon. While there I got caught up in the excitement and decided it might be fun to enter. Not expecting to get drawn I promptly forgot about entering and resumed my sedentary lifestyle until my wife reminded me that March Second was draw date. Sure enough and against all odds I got in.
Lots of thoughts ran through my head, first excitement then panic, more excitement, then the cold reality that I cannot run more than 26 meters never mind 26 miles.
We decided in order for me to get through this I needed a goal and what better goal than raising money for two really great causes. Stars ambulance and St Brieux Fire Department. Both of these groups put themelves on the line to protect our communities day after day. The least I can do is run 26 miles and raise them some money.
In April I ran my very first training run. 1.8 KMs in 11:49. I felt like my heart was trying to evacuate my chest through my chest as my stomach contents headed for every exit they could find, but I cracked on with training and now feel like 26 miles42 KMs is actually achievable.
100% of the money raised will be split evenly between both of these great causes.
Thank you in advance for any support you can give. It will all be greatly appreciated.
